Replacing the Drive Belt on the 15" Craftsman Woodturning Lathe

It can be done.

Follow the directions to tighten the drive belt, until the belt is exposed. Then procede as follows. I should point out once again that my lathe is no longer under warranty and that the procedure would actually be easier if the Reeves drive belt was removed as well. However, this works.

Here the belt is exposed but the speed adjustment arm is in the way. Wood Lathe drive belt
Remove the two bolts holding the arm in place and unscrew it from the adjustment nut. wood lathe speed adjustment
This leaves the belt more open but there is no room to get the belt off the cogged wheels. wood turning belt
Remove four bolts from the bearing assembly for the drive shaft. wood turning bearings
The drive shaft will hang from the speed belt. wood lathe shaft
There is enough movement to remove the drive belt leaving the cogged drive wheels. drive wheels
