Wood Turning an Apple Hollow Form

As I begin to hollow and to thin the walls as I go, it is noticable that there is brittle wood along the edge of the split. This was forseen but it is difficult to say how extensive it will yet be. Gentle cuts are necessary. wood turning hollow form
A little farther in and from the other side it is obvious that there is weak wood around the pith. This is not surprising but it would be nice to leave some of the center. wood turning blank
Some fof the center pith has departed but enough remains for good visual interest. instruction
The other side of the piece reveals even better or worse activity at center, depending on your viewpoint. I think it lends a lot of visual interest. tip
So I continued to the bottom. CA and gentleness allowed the punky spot to remain. I prefer it to a hole this close to the bottom. technique
After some sanding it is beginning to come together. The little band next to the bottom is a touch awkward to sand. basics
