Garden Bed Makeover - Page 3
Along with a better looking bed, the work generates a lot of compost pile material.
With one corner of the bed dug up it is time to look at it and evaluate the work left. Lots. However, the extensive root systems of the obnoxious perennials makes it clear that the whold bed will need much the same course of maintenance.
Not all the news is bad. I am sure that I did not put in this but a couple of small ones have been found as I dug
I will place them in fromt of the first wegilia shrub. They do not have a large root system but a good watering will likely allow them to thrive.
The bed is starting to come together. As I stare at the work done I decide to keep going on the inside corner. There is a lot of mallow to come out of it along with some ornamental grass. I will keep a clump of the grass.
By this time my old garden cart is full of material for the compost pile. The cart has been with me for about thirty years and is on its second body but holding strong. If the company that made it was still in business I would get another and retire this one. On the other hand, maybe not. This one just keeps on going.
The compost bin, on the other hand, not so much. It has given good service but is overloaded and falling down. Once the bed is done a new composting station will be on the list of things to do.
