Getting it done.

The bottom is sanded to 1200 grit as was the rest of the body and the sanded areas are blended to remove any sanding demarcation. Then the cone is reduced as far as is safe for the piece or comfortable for the wood turner. 	The bottom is sanded to 1200 grit as was the rest of the body

And here we have the final piece with the decorative, natural jag at the top. Notice that the spalted swoosh comes along from the left side to the burst at the center and then feathers dramatically to the right.
