There is still a lot of wood to be removed as can be seen from the flats. Also, there is a fair bit of cracking around the pith. Something to look out for as I proceed.

As the turning continues, the cracks are evident and an effort is made to incorporate them into the design.
The bottom is not without its worries either as I bring it up past the screws and notice a soft spot where an old branch had tried to grow.
Occasionally I touch up the cracks with thin CA. This wood will be turned away but it should keep the wood from cracking too much more and lend a bit of stability as I turn.
The cracks are evident in various places and the relieving of stresses as more of the wood is removed begins to generate more of them. The glue should help.
Any time I need to leave the wood, frequently in the case of this turning, I put a plastic bag over it to preserve moisture and relieve dry stresses.
When there is time to turn, it is simply a matter of movng the bag off and beginning again.
